Internships

We are currently accepting applications for our 2025 Summer Internship Program!

Start Date: arrive by May 23, 2025 

End Date: August 22, 2025

Hours: 40 hours a week

Stipend: $200 per week ($2600 in total)

Housing: Accommodations in a fully furnished, five bedroom house within a five minute walking distance to theater, rehearsal spaces and office. Full kitchen, living area and two half-baths, with in-unit washer and dryer. On street parking is available. Partial access to a company car is provided. Bedrooms are shared between 1-2 interns per room.

Travel: Transport from Bradley International Airport or Springfield Union Station to Chester can be arranged. There is no travel stipend.

 

DESIGN/TECHNICAL INTERN

Our three (3) Design and Technical Interns form the backbone of the intern company. The Design and Technical Internship is generally divided into the following roles: Costumes and Props Intern, Set and Construction Intern, and Sound/Lights and Electrics Intern. 

However, depending on the skills and interests of our applicants, we are open to adjusting the duties between the three interns–if you have a particular strength or interest in any of the following responsibilities, please don’t hesitate to indicate so in your application!

  • Assist the Costume Designers in the selection and maintenance of all costume elements for the summer season.
  • Run wardrobe or wigs for all techs and performances.
  • Wash any necessary costume elements between shows at the Intern Housing. 
  • Assist the Production Manager/Scenic Designers with building props for the season.
  • Assist Stage Management with getting rehearsal props, maintaining props, and replacing props if necessary for the season.
  • Assist Scenic Designers and Technical Director in the construction and implementation of scenic elements.
  • Assist the Master Electrician with show prep, hang, focus, load-in, strike for all shows.
  • Serve as Sound and Light Board Operator for all shows. 
  • All Design/Technical Interns will be called for all load-in and strikes throughout the season, reporting to their various departments as needed.

Reports to: Production Manager, Technical Director, and Designers.

 

STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERN

Our two (2) Stage Management interns take on the essential role of Assistant Stage Managers to our Equity Stage Managers. Each intern will be assigned to 2 out of our 4 summer productions. Experience with stage management is strongly encouraged.

If you are interested in being ASM for a certain kind of show, please indicate so in your application! For example: tackling a show with a lot of props, working on a one-person show, etc. 

  • Assist Equity Stage Managers during all rehearsals for your assigned shows, performing daily setup and cleaning, track props and scenery and taking line notes. 
  • Running backstage with Equity ASM for all performances of assigned shows, including daily setup and cleaning, as well as assisting in stage presets and changes.
  • Attend production meetings as needed.
  • Assists technical and design crews with load-in and strike of all productions.

Reports to: Equity Stage Managers.

 

ARTISTIC/ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN

Our two (2) Artistic/Administrative Interns make up the patron-facing portion of our intern company! In addition to helping the administrative, box office and front of house teams, each intern will act as Assistant Director on at least one of our four productions. 

If you have a particular interest in working on a certain kind of show, or in performing duties not described below, please indicate so in your application. 

  • Assist the Director in all rehearsals of your assigned show(s), taking notes, providing research should questions arise, and aiding the stage management team if necessary. 
  • Attend all tech days of your assigned show(s), assisting the Director.
  • Assist the Box Office Manager in answering box office phone calls and placing ticket orders.
  • Designing, printing, and folding programs, including writing any dramaturgical notes.
  • Assisting the Box Office Manager with Will Call and Front of House during all shows. 
  • Managing concessions.

Reports to: Managing Director, Box Office Manager.
