Internships

Chester Theatre Company is a professional theatre company located in the foothills of the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.

CTC produces 4-5 plays each summer, staged and performed by professional actors, directors and designers.  Now in its 35th season, CTC has earned a reputation for excellence in contemporary theatre, consistently winning top honors with area critics. CTC has a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in its artistic and educational programming. CTC productions have gone on to Off Broadway engagements and regional, national, and international tours.

We are currently accepting applications for our 2024 Summer Internship Program.

Here’s some important information:

Dates: Monday, May 27, 2024 – Wednesday, August 21, 2024

Applicants must be able to receive academic credit for their internship at Chester Theatre Company.

CTC will cover any expense associated with that academic credit.

Applicants must be able to provide proof of vaccination.

CTC provides housing and a weekly living stipend of $200 to all interns.  

Interns participate in the life of CTC, coming to know artists, staff, and audiences. Educational experiences include classes with the Director of Education, as well as with resident and visiting artists. 

A scheduled special event during our regular season’s dark week will offer each intern the opportunity to produce, stage manage, or design under the mentorship of our professional staff and creative teams. 

The following internships are offered:

Stage Management

Each Stage Management intern will learn from and assist the Equity Stage Manager on two of the four Main Stage productions.  The SM interns will:

·         Assist the AEA stage manager with rehearsal room tasks such as:

·         Preparing the rehearsal room

·         Tracking blocking

·         Being on book and taking line notes

·         Preparing production paperwork

·         Track and maintain props and costumes during rehearsals and performance

·         Lead backstage crew during performance

·         Assist with load in and strike of all productions during the season.

·         Interns will assist with other front of house and administrative tasks.

This internship provides the unique opportunity for students interested in stage management to work closely with an AEA Stage Manager and receive direct mentorship and guidance.

Production 

Production Interns focus in one of three areas, though individuals can expect to participate and learn across different disciplines. Production Interns will learn from and assist professionals in three primary areas:

·         Electrics 

·         Work with the Master Electrician and lighting designers on hang and focus of              lighting

·         Assist with set up and maintenance of the sound system

·         Run lights and/or sound

·         Assist with load in and strike across areas

·         May assist with other production or administrative tasks

·         Carpentry and Props 

·         Work with the Master Carpenter and set designers on scenic construction and              installation and change overs

·         Assist the Master Carpenter with props creation, acquisition, and maintenance

·         Act as run crew backstage or board operator for each production

·         Assist with load in and strike across areas

·         May assist with other production or administrative tasks

·         Props and Wardrobe 

·         Work with the Master Carpenter with props creation, acquisition, and maintenance

·         Work with costume designers in the fitting process and work with assistant stage managers on maintaining rehearsal pieces

·         Perform daily wardrobe maintenance tasks during the performance periods

·         Assist with load in and strike across areas

·         May assist with other production or administrative tasks

Artistic / Administrative

The two Artistic / Administrative interns will work closely with the following departments in artistic administration for the Summer 2024 season:

·         Dramaturgy

·         Work with staff and directors on research materials for productions as well as program insert materials and lobby displays

·         Direction

·         Serve as assistant to the director on one of the 4 main season productions

·         Assist the Artistic Directors on a variety of tasks including coordinating artists for panel discussions, organizing special events, and script organization

·         Company Management

·         Assist the Operations Manager in coordinating artist travel and housing

·         Box Office / House Management

·         Assist Box Office Manager in patron relations and ticket sales

·         Work with Box Office Manager and volunteer ushers to assist with house management.

·         Marketing and Development

·         Work with Marketing Director on publicity campaigns and social media

·         Assist with special event planning

·         General

·         Assist with load in and strike across areas
