Stage Management Intern Job Description

Stage Management interns will serve as assistants to the stage managers on each of the 4 main stage productions.  The SM interns will:

  • Assist the AEA stage manager with rehearsal room tasks such as:
    • Preparing the rehearsal room
    • Tracking blocking
    • Being on book and line notes
    • Preparing production paperwork
  • Track and maintain props and costumes during rehearsals and performance
  • Lead 1-2 production assistants working backstage on the performance
  • Assist with load in and strike of all productions during their contract term
  • Interns will be asked to assist with other production or administrative tasks as needed.

 

This internship provides the unique opportunity for someone interested in stage management to work closely with an AEA Stage Manager and receive direct mentorship and guidance.  Each SM intern will work closely with the actors – taking an independent leadership role on two productions in the season.

 

Dates:

Position 1 (Shows 1 and 3) Sunday May 27, 2018 – Sunday August 5, 2018

Position 2 (Shows 2 and 4) Sunday June 10, 2018 – Wednesday August 24, 2018

Compensation: Stipend. Housing assistance available in some instances.

Production Intern Job Description

 

Production Interns are hired in three areas, though individuals may perform tasks and work across different disciplines:

 

  • Electrics
    • Assist the Master Electrician on hang and focus of lighting
    • Assist with set up and maintenance of the sound system
    • Run lights and/or sound for each production
    • Assist with load in, change over, and strike as needed across areas
  • Carpentry and Props
    • Assist the Master Carpenter with scenic installations and change overs
    • Assist the Master Carpenter with props creation, maintenance, and borrowing
    • Act as run crew backstage or board operator for each production
  • Props and Wardrobe
    • Assist the Master Carpenter with props creation, maintenance, and borrowing
    • Assist costume designers in the fitting process and work with assistant stage managers on maintaining rehearsal pieces
    • Perform daily wardrobe maintenance tasks during the performance periods
    • Assist with load in, change over, and strike as needed across areas

 

  • All production interns will work on load in, change overs, and strikes for all shows
  • Interns may be asked to assist with other production or administrative tasks as needed.

 

Dates: Props/Wardrobe Position: Sunday May 27, 2018 – Wednesday August 24, 2018

Carpentry and Electrics Positions: Sunday June 10, 2018 – Wednesday August 24, 2018

Arts Administration Intern Description

Arts Administrative interns will work closely with various departments in artistic administration for the Summer 2018 season.  Administrative Interns are hired in two areas, though individuals may perform tasks and work across different disciplines.

  • Company Management
    • Assist the Operations Manager in coordinating artist travel and housing
    • Check in with visiting companies to ensure housing needs are met
    • Support stage management with rehearsal hospitality
    • Answer phone inquiries and process ticket sales
    • Assist the box office manager with running performances and house management
  • Marketing and Development
    • Assist with special event planning, invitation, and set up
    • Data entry and database management
    • Website and email marketing
    • Answer phone inquiries and process ticket sales
    • Assist the box office manager with running performances and house management

 

  • Interns will be asked to assist with other production or administrative tasks as needed.

 

The successful candidate should have both experience working in an office environment and an interest in pursuing a career in the theatre/arts administration.  Interns work closely with multiple departments, so we are seeking candidates who are professional, self motivated, and detail oriented.

Either of these positions may also have the opportunity to serve as assistant to the director of one production should the successful candidate be interested.

Marketing / Development Focus: Sunday May 27 – Wednesday August 24, 2018

 Artistic and Directing Interns will assist the artistic director with day to day operations and have the opportunity to serve as assistant to the director on one or more of the main season productions.

Dates: Sunday May 27, 2018 – Sunday August 24, 2018 – Flexible

Compensation: Unpaid
